Paradigm Shift

While on the surface we are constricted by behavior, emotions, and limited thinking, our free-will nature pushes us to access our deeper ‘unlimited potential’.  The paradox of human existence is that we are mortal beings striving for immortality through our actions and deeds.

This is our essence.

And of course just to keep things interesting, we tend to dismiss our status as free-will beings.  For the most part, people are in denial of their exceptional nature.  We underestimate our status and potential, and rarely consider that our abilities and talents are vastly superior to any creature on this planet.

Behavioral Change - While behavioral change wthin the animal kingdom can be calculated to follow a linear and ‘step by step’ progression, the ongoing error within psychology has been to assume that the same holds true for human behavior.

However, in reality man’s free-will potential can best be understood from a non-linear perspective. This perspective allows us to  support the expectation of exponential growth.

*Paradigm Shift - If we accept that man’s potential for change is exponential, it may initially seem like an impossible task to offer an encompassing theory. However, as it turns out, this task is simpler than one might imagine.

However, in order to discuss such a theory we need to propose a new way of thinking; a ‘paradigm shift’.

Hold on! I know what you’re thinking! This is not as complicated as it sounds!

The introduction of this shift is necessary since the linear logic that currently dominates theory and treatment is not adequate to handle the non-linear paradox of free-will. In other words, in order to explain ‘paradox’, we need to introduce a ‘paradox-based model.’

On a conceptual level, we need to “fight fire with fire …”

*Orbits-Gravity - Fortunately, we don’t have to look too far. As it turns out, we can incorporate a reputable non-linear model that also happens to be the base of modern scientific thought. Through this model we are able to define an encompassing theory for treatment and free-will change.

This theory is based on the science of ‘orbits-gravity’ phenomena. The model allows us to convey insights that on the surface ‘lack of face validity’ and seem counter-intuitive when addressing treatment in mental health, addiction, and other related issues.

*Theory and Treatment - As will be discussed, this work is comprehensive in discussing the ‘human personality system’.  In so doing, the orbits-gravity model covers a full range of theoretical and treatment related issues.

These issues are relevant to the process of personality change. In addition the model offers important insights that clarify the overlap between behavioral, cognitive, and psychodynamic approaches.  As we will see, this non-linear approach allows us to unify these approaches under one single umbrella theory.

The model allows us to address issues inclusive of: addictions, mental health disorders, couple and family conflict, and repetitive criminal behavior.

As part of ‘theory and treatment’ we will address the ‘therapeutic alliance’ and ‘abandonment trauma.’  As such, we will identify how the alliance is relevant to successful treatment regarding the motivated client, as well as those considered to be treatment-resistant.              EPK Revised: 1-15-12
